Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Police state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say early analysis show the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
City officials said they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for information.
A senior official commented the vandalism left him speechless and required to be solved quickly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in 2020.
